It’s All Opinions Day

They’re only opinions, but at least they’re all mine:

You don’t think the Lakers were caught looking ahead to LeBron and Miami on Tuesday night, do you? . . .

UConn has broken the record now, so everybody is comparing Geno Auriemma with the late John Wooden. Well, I’ll tell you one thing that’s different. Wooden never kissed one of his players after a big basket the way Geno did on Tuesday . . .

How about if Andrew Bynum tells us the next time he DOESN’T feel pain in his knee? . . .

The two most exciting players in the NFL are now on one team — Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson of the Eagles . . .

If, as some reports indicate, the Angels have dropped out of the Adrian Beltre bidding, the guy who should be most upset about it is Kendry Morales. He’ll be pitched around more than anybody in the American League . . .

As someone who underwent an emergency appendectomy a couple years ago, I’m astounded Matt Cassel can come back 11 days after the same operation and play quarterback for the Chiefs . . .

USC barely loses to Kansas on the road, then wins at Tennessee. Not bad against two basketball teams ranked in the Top 20. Maybe the Pac-10 has a new darkhorse contender . . .

Break up the Clippers! OK, so I’m kidding. But how often will they win three games in a row? . ..

Unlike some Southern California teams, the Padres just helped themselves by acquiring shortstop Jason Bartlett and second baseman Orlando Hudson, both solid major league players . . .

Brett Favre swears he’s happy he came back for one more year. Sure he is . . .

My vote for the NFL’s most improved player: Jay Cutler of the Bears . . .

Speaking of the Bears, the best way to describe Devin Hester is to call him the Jerry Rice of kick returners . . .

The new name you hear being kicked around by the Angels is Scott Posednik, who actually fits as a left fielder and leadoff hitter, except for one problem. He’s a popgun hitter in a lineup already full of them . . .

Yes, Zenyatta should be Horse of the Year. No, I don’t think she will be. If those biased Eastern writers didn’t vote for her last year, when she won the Breeders’ Cup Classic, why would they vote for her this year, when she didn’t? . . .

“The Fighter” is a good movie with an Academy Award worthy performance by Christian Bale, but the best boxing movie ever? Come on, it’s not even in the same league with “Raging Bull.” Or “Million Dollar Baby,” for that matter . . .

The Brewers, with Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum added to their rotation, look like the most improved team in the National League . . .

I think it’s too early to say Tim Tebow won’t make it as an NFL starting quarterback. But it’s not too early to say he isn’t Michael Vick . . .

I know he is down on Donovan McNabb, but the Redskins’ Mike Shanahan doesn’t really think Rex Grossman is his quarterback of the future, does he? . . .

Wait, Maryland’s Ralph Friedgen is named ACC Coach of the Year, and then he’s fired? . . .

As someone who used to cover San Diego State basketball games when there were only a few hundred in the stands, it’s amazing to me that the Aztecs are suddenly the 7th ranked team in the country . . .

Shaq conducting the Boston Pops? Really? Say this for the Big Maestro: He remains one of the more engaging people in sports . . .

So NOW the Chargers are talking about paying Vincent Jackson what he’s worth. Might be a little late, huh, guys? . . .

Has the college bowl season started yet? . . .

  1. Yes we do not know what Tim Tebow brings but I will say he is one of those guttsy quarterbacks you rout for. Kind of like Doug Flutie.

  2. If the Angels have really backed out of the Beltre sweepstakes, then it’s official. Arte does not really want to win. He will pay for his cheapness with boos and declinig box office. His team has no star power.
    Baa Humbug Angel Fans.

  3. To me, Andrew Bynum has not proven a thing except he is a big body who can clog the center of the court. I agree. Break up the Clippers. But, Steve, not for the reason you are kidding about. Zenyatta should definitely be Horse of the Year. If the issue was settled on the track, as Seth Hancock says, then what about all of the horses that beat Blame during the year? Slip of the typewriter, Steve. But I still think of Mike Shanahan as the Denver coach instead of the Redskins. For me, “Champion” is the best all-time boxing film. Anybody else agree?
