It’s All Opinions Day

They’re only opinions, but at least they’re all mine:

Matt Barnes, Steve Blake, Shannon Brown taking his game to another level. The Lakers’ bench is so much better now, it’s ridiculous . . .

So when LeBron James took his talents to South Beach, wasn’t he supposed to bring his victories with him? . . .

You watch Duke basketball year-in and year-out, you see how smart and disciplined and talented those kids are, and you realize Coach K really is this generation’s John Wooden . . .

The Tigers spend $50 million on Victor Martinez, huh? Let the money wars begin . . .

I love the way Jeff Fisher is handling the Vince Young thing. Someone has to show these divas who’s in charge . . .

The Yankees are talking a lot of smack about Derek Jeter now. But I want to be there when they have to tell the New York fan base they’re letting their revered captain leave. Trust me, it will never happen . . .

Here’s what I want to know about Norm Chow: What does he really think of UCLA’s new pistol offense? . . .

Someone should tell Brett Favre that this “he says, she says” stuff is beneath him . . .

I love Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, but right now, the Chargers’ Phillip Rivers is my NFL MVP . . .

The Angels didn’t offer Hideki Matsui arbitration. Is that really a news bulletin? . . .

What the Clippers’ Blake Griffin really needs is a good nickname. Considering the way he rattles rims on those spectacular dunks of his, how about “Blake The Quake”? Hey, maybe it’s a little cheesy, but he plays in earthquake conscious L.A., right? . . .

You check out the Bulls and you remember just how good a young point guard Derrick Rose is . . .

Michael Vick is fun to watch, but if he keeps exposing his body on those exciting runs of his, he’ll never make it to the postseason . . .

Stanford’s Andrew Luck is making a big run at breaking into the top three in the Heisman race . . .

If it somehow turns out that way, Stanford vs. Wisconsin would be a wonderful Rose Bowl. In some ways, the two teams are mirror images of themselves . . .

Who would have ever believed it? USC-Notre playing a game of little, or no, relevance . . .

If fiery new first base coach Davey Lopes can’t get through to those Dodgers kids, nobody can . . .

Maybe it’s just me, but I think Jason Garrett is proving he should be the Cowboys’ permanent head coach . . .

This year, all the best football games are on the day AFTER Thanksgiving . . .

Joe Paterno, age 84, has announced he is coming back to coach Penn State next year. Hey, in this market, where’s a young, energetic guy supposed to get a better job? . . .

  1. Isn’t it nice to see Coach Garrett get wins for the Dallas Cowboys? It is especially nice for us fans. And, again, your opinions and mine agree. Have a super Thanksgiving my friend.

  2. Everyone makes a big deal of Miami’s BIG 3 signings – The early leader for Executive of the Year has to be Mitch Kupchak. Bringing in Blake and Barnes (and Ratliff) and re-signing Brown was genius….and when Bynum comes back – Lamar joins the 2nd unit that IS probably better than most team’s 1st Team! The 2 Rooks are doing good and you still have Sasha and Walton!! Only a serious injury (knock on wood) can stop these guys!!

  3. Agreed. Who saw the Shannon Brown thing coming.? Here we go! Happy Thanksgiving Steve.

  4. Thought provoking opinions, Steve. Here are some of my takes. I agree that it is refreshing to see a coach take a stand, as in the Jeff Fisher-Vince Young case. However, will the owner stay on the sidelines and, if he does not, will Fisher still be the coach of the Titans? Brett Favre manipulates the system by continually “retiring” and gets to choose the team he wants to play for? I do not think that anything is beneath him. Blake Griffin? Just don’t call him Blake the Clipper after the next two years. As long as Donald Sterling continues to make money with the Clipper franchise it will be business as usual and Griffin will be like Elton Brand, going to another team.
