It’s All Opinions Day

They’e only opinions, but at least they’re all mine:

So Reggie Bush is forfeiting the Heisman Trophy, huh? OK, but it would still be nice if he included the two words people are waiting to hear: “I’m sorry.” . . .

I don’t care where the Padres finish, Bud Black should still be National League Manager of the Year . . .

Someone explain the Jets’ use of Mark Sanchez to me. I know he’s young and learning, but if you’re going to play him, you have to let him throw the ball downfield once in a while . . .

If one game is any indication, yes, the Chargers really miss wide receiver Vincent Jackson . . .

I don’t know if Kevin Durant is in the top echelon yet, but if he isn’t, he belongs right there, just a notch below Kobe, LeBron and Dwayne. And he’s gaining . . .

Defenses rule in the NFL, I understand that. But that Ravens-Jets game was flat out boring to me . . .

USC’s Ronald Johnson is understandably Mark Barkley’s go-to guy. But the Trojans’ quarterback has to be careful. He shouldn’t be his ONLY guy . . .

Anyone else get the feeling that, at this point, Roger Federer is almost relieved when he doesn’t have to play Rafael Nadal in a Grand Slam final? . . .

If Michigan’s eyepopping quarterback Denard Robinson keeps going like this, everyone in the NCAA will start untying their shoelaces . . .

Here’s why making preseason picks in the NFL is crazy: Green Bay loses tailback Ryan Grant for the year in the first game, and suddenly, everything about the Packers’ offense changes . . .

As long as UCLA continues to run the Pistol offense, fragile Kevin Prince will continue to get hurt. Won’t he? . . .

It’s funny, but ever since they let him leave, neither the Angels nor Chone Figgins have been the same . . .

How many games would the Colorado Rockies have won if Troy Tulowitzki hadn’t been out for two months? . . .

He was the most underrated player on the 2008 USC defense that ranked among the finest of its era, but the way he’s going, the Packers’ Clay Matthews might yet prove to be the best . . .

The dogfighting thing is difficult to forget, but yes, Michael Vick is still an electric football player . . .

Women media members who dress provocatively, then stroll into a professional team’s locker room full of testosterone are basically asking for a reaction. Usually, they get one . . .

Let me add that the women media members who are true professionals almost always dress appropriately . . .

Now that Pete Carroll is off and running in Seattle, here’s an interesting fact: The Seahawks don’t play a legitimate, bigtime Super Bowl contender until Week 11 at New Orleans . . .

Virginia Tech just confirmed a favorite theory of mine. Always be leery of a team coming off an emotional, hard-fought loss. More often than not, it is vulnerable the next week . . .

Wade Phillips is a nice guy and a good defensive coordinator, but I just don’t think the Cowboys will get to the Super Bowl as long as he’s the head coach . . .

Randy Moss is making $9 million a year and doesn’t feel wanted. How do you think all those people who are out of work across the country feel about that? . . .

Here’s another reason Mike Scioscia should be playing young Angels prospects Mark Trumbo and Hank Conger: It would give their fans something interesting to watch.

  1. Everything you said Steve was right on. I am surprised you thought the Ravens and the Jets was boring. I was rooting for Mark Sanchez and co. I was amazed with Ray Lewis’ defense.

  2. Actually, I found the Ravens-Jets game to be a refreshing change from the 42-41 games that have resulted from the change in rules that greatly favor the offense. However, you are correct, Steve, in regards to Mark Sanchez. to win with the rules now in place, you need a good QB who can throw the ball down field. Either Sanchez can do it or he can’t. Which is it? Reminds me of the way that Chuck Knox handled Pat Haden. His lack of faith in Haden might have cost the Rams at least two trips to the super bowl. In the case of Vick, the dog fighting thing is impossible for me for forget. I guess anything goes if you have game.

  3. You’ve done it again. Hit the nail on the head. Bud Black should definitely be the NL manager of the year. Thanks, my friend.

  4. Hey bud, great blog you got over here, keep it up! To be honest I don’t think that Bush giving up the Heisman is all that big a deal. The thing is that you can’t take away the fact that he still did all those great things. It wasn’t steroids it was something else, not specified which to be isn’t a big deal in the big picture. Also, you think you could check out my blog cuz I really wanna hear your thoughts on mine. http://chrisross91.wordpress.com/2010/09/15/who-cares-about-reggie-bush-giving-back-the-heisman/

    • Hey, Chris, thanks for the kind words. I looked at some of your blogs and they read well, and you’re not afraid to take a stand, which is important for any blogger or columnist. Since you appear to be young and mention you’re still in school, I think you’re off to a great start. Stick with it, and I think you could have a real future in whatever the future form of journalism is.

  5. too bad it is Randy & not Pete

re Bush: they should be paid –
